Learning Forward Georgia is excited to invite you to attend our spring conference at the beautiful Macon Marriott City Center in Macon, Georgia! Our focus this year is on a hot topic that everyone is excited to learn more about: Common Core GPS Implementation. On day one, Kathy Carrollton Matthews, program manager for professional learning at the Georgia Department of Education, will lead us through activities designed to engage system and school leaders and teachers in implementing the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS). Kathy serves as Georgia’s lead contact for our state’s status as a Critical Friend state with the Learning Forward initiative entitled “Transforming Professional Learning to Prepare College- and Career-Ready Students: Implementing the Common Core”. As a critical friend state, Georgia will be at the table with six other states as tools and resources for implementation of common core are developed. Kathy will share resources and knowledge gained through this and other initiatives. Her main goal is to leave us with processes and tools that we can use to engage and lead our fellow teachers and educators as we make the transition to common core. These processes will include looking at student work and protocols for the critical work that will be necessary for us to successfully move forward in our implementation efforts.
Day two will allow us to attend two breakout sessions of our choosing. Breakout sessions will include updates on many state initiatives, including the new teacher induction and leader induction guidelines; lessons learned from the work of the GaDOE Office of School Turnaround with transformational schools; updates from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission; updates from the new teacher and leader evaluation systems; and updates from ELA and Math CCGPS work from across the state.
We are truly looking forward to this learning time together, and we hope you will join us!
